Filippo, or Phillip, was born 23 Aug 1885 in Campolieto2 3 4, although his cemetery headstone lists his birthdate as 10 Jun 18865.

When Phillip was eight years old he went to work in the local sulfer mines to help support his family1.

He emigrated from Italy with his mother and two sisters in 18983.  His father and brother had preceded them to Penn Township, PA.

In 1909 Phillip was invited to the home of his friend, Nicholas Strazza, for dinner.  There he met Nicholas' sister, Margaret.  The next day he returned and asked her to go for a walk.  A year later, despite opposition from her family, Phillip and Margaret married1.

After their marriage, they moved to his parents farm.  It was already very crowded there: not only Phillip and Margaret lived there, but also his sister Philomena and her husband Joseph Frechione7.  Their first three children, out of a total of eleven, were born on this farm.  After the third child was born, Phillip found some land in Penn Township, further down on Frankstown Road.  He arranged to rent this land, a total of 187 acres, and the family moved to the new farm where Phillip established himself 1.  He can be found there on the 1920 census along with his wife and his first five children8 and again in 1930 with ten children9.

Phillip planted corn, strawberries, raspberries, squash, rhubarb, beans, onions, lettuce and tomatoes.  He also set up a small store on his property, facing Frankstown Road so that passersby could see his produce.  He became very well known for his corn and strawberries.

On the morning of January 27, 1937, Phillip Yalenty died of lobar pneumonia, at the age of 51 .  He left Margaret with eleven children and a 187 acre farm.1

Filippo married Margaret STRAZZA, daughter of Leonardo STRAZZA and Isabella GIALINELLI, in 1910 in St. Mary Of The Mount, Pittsburgh, PA.1 (Margaret STRAZZA was born on 13 Dec 1891 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny, PA 1, died on 7 May 1954 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny, PA 1 5 and was buried on 10 May 1954 in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Pittsburgh, PA 6.)
